Happy 2011!!

2011 is going to bring lots of great changes for Scott & Georgia, we are so excited about it all! We are also really excited that we will get to HUG our Scott this year!!!

December 31, 2010
so a lot has happened and a lot more is going to happen!!!

first news is that we got permission to start translating of the book
of mormon in 2011.  so in February when they finish 'Preach my Gospel'
they will then begin on the book of mormon!!! so in 3 years we will
have that and 2 1/2 years after that the 3 combination!!!!! so they
work of the Lord is moving forward!!!!!  it is so great!!!

so some crazy news for you..... 2 weeks ago there was some political
issues trying to be pushed by the government and there was some
opposing parties rallying against them.  so President Sakhashvili'
part went out and blew up the opposing parties building in the middle
of the night.   so even after years of claiming independence
they are still having huge political problems ha ha ha  there has also
been some big protesting going on but they stopped this last week for
the holidays.  why can't people just get along?

well CHRISTMAS was a great one!!!  we started our morning with talking
to our parents and that was so good!!!  what a gift from the
presidency that we can call home!!! i really enjoyed that!  they
looked good even though nate did not do his hair that morning (or
night)  after that we went out to this very fancy resturant that would
have cost us like 60$ a plate in America but here it cost is 25$!  so
that was really good!  then we went out laser tagging. then after that
we went out and walked down rustaveli ave. and watched the lights.  it
is the main street and it is so lite up with lights that you could
drive it with out head lights on your car at night time.  it was
amazing!  (note; i live on this street so i get to see it every
night!!!)  ;)  we also saw the lighting of the Christmas tree. every
year on Christmas night they light this huge tree. it is a big
tradition that they started since they are trying to become
westernized......  they had a huge light show, fireworks, and finally
they lite up the tree and every one went crazy!!! HA HA HA HA HA OH
WHAT A CHRISTMAS IT WAS!!!!!  i really enjoyed it and loved it!!!  it
was one to remember!  also it was my last one in Georgia! :(  can you
think about that! already 2 christmas are gone and soon i will be
home!!!!  blows my mind!!!!

well for new years is when georgia really party!!! everyone gets drunk
for the next week and FOOD FOOD FOOD!!!!! that is the georgian way....
FOOD FOOD FOOD FOOD!!!!!!!  so this next week will be hard.  everyone
on the streets drunk and everyone inviting us over to eat and then
want nothing more after that!!!  for new years we are going to one of
the elders apartments and going to stay inside and watch movies and
eat food!!! HA HA HA it will be good!!!

I AM GREAT AND LOVE YOU ALL!!!!!    HAPPY NEW YEAR AND I WILL SEE YOU
ALL NEXT YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My Christmas wish

December 20, 2010
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!
Well at this time i would just like to tell you all a MERRY CHRISTMAS
and what my Christmas wish is.
and this time we remember the birth of Christ.  we remember the
greatest gift ever given to man kind.  we remember the day that God
gave His only Begotten Son, Jesus.  that is the whole meaning of it!!!
nothing else.  no other gifts compare to that of the one that our
Father gave to us!!!  and so for me wish i ask each of you to give
that which only we can give.  ourselves.  that is the only thing that
we have that God does not have.  and so i ask that we each take time
to give of ourselves, our time, and do that which Christ did.  spend
time with others that are less-off then you. spend time with the sick
or aged.  serve those that others would turn away, and then right it
down so that you may remember the spirit if Christmas.  President
Monson spoke of this so very well in his short message of Christmas.
that in the spirit in Christmas is really the SPIRIT OF CHRIST!!!!
that is what it is about!  share it with others and you will see that
in return you get more of that Spirit then you thought you could have.
it is the one thing that when you give it away, that you get it back
double or even more!!!!

GOD BE WITH YOU!!!!!
GOD IS IN HEAVEN; JESUS IS THE CHRIST; THEY LOVE US and NOTHING CAN
CHANGE THAT!!!!!!!!!

good boost for the work!

3- as a disrtict we found 5 new investigators. that is more then we
have found in the past 5 weeks.  so that was good!

well the weather is still playing tricks on us. yesterday it was cold

Another week gone by

November 29, 2010
well this week a lot happened HA HA HA HA
first we had Thanksgiving!!!! on that day we went to a Armenian
funeral in Georgia. (the guy who died was Armenian)
this is the second funeral i have been to. that is the same
amount as funerals as i have been to in america in my 19 years!!!!!
the funerals here are NOT the same.  the body is not taken care of or
fixed up, just dressed in that persons best and put in a wooded box.
three days later after everyone has come to the house where the bodies
is. (veiwing) the carry it out and bury him. the priest comes and
blesses the grave, says some prayers, receives some money and goes on
back with life.  also there is lots of drinking and crying and kissing
of the person. they still do it like 200 years ago. if you
have ever seen the prophet of the restoration movie, where they carry
alvin by the ropes..... that is the same thing here!   it was crazy!
after which we went to the family dinner and toasted drinks all day
long and ate really exotic food that was not FDA approved.  after which
we went to the senior couples house where we had REAL turkey dinner
and potatoes and corn!!! it was so good!!!!  not like home cooking but
close as it is going to get here.  after that we watched 'my
fair lady'. we were suppose to watch a different one but it didn't
work so Elder Southwick, the senior couple said it would be ok if we
got a little culture and watched this other one.  it was pretty funny
HA HA HA HA we were all joking us missionaries that we were going to
all get high class women like that for our wives and go to the race
tracks all the time!!!!HA HA
then friday we had a zone conference in georgia with President Manzhos
from the 70. he is one of the councilors in this are presidentcy and
he came and did a mission tour this past week. it was good to see and
here from him.   he is from this part of the world and he knows people
really well. he had a good meeting with him and also again on friday
with the members.  that was way good!!!!
so that was about it!  a funeral, a great dinner, and a great meeting
with President Manzhos.
hope your week is good and that life goes on for you!!!
REMEMBER THAT NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS, GOD IS IN HEAVEN AND JESUS IS
THE CHRIST, AND THEY LOVE US. NOTHING WILL EVER CHANGE THAT!!!!!

well this week we spent a lot of time doing service!  we spent like 20
hrs this week painting at our Branch Presidents house!!! it was so
much fun!!! we painted the out side and his stairs, and next week we are going to
paint the inside!!!! it will be good!!!!
so life is good and i love the work.  things are moving forward. this
week we have President Mojos from the 3rd quorum of the 70 coming and
having a mission conference. it will be fun and exciting to see
another general authority.  i am excited. the members will have a big
meeting with him and that will go good!!!
so the work is good and i love it!!!  the weather is nice, still
wearing short sleeves and light jacket, my comp is wearing like 6
layers and a huge coat..... I THINK HE MUST BE COLD??????  it is good
whaether!  like the snow back in Utah, at least not yet, but nice!!! i
miss the cold!
things are good and I LOVE IT!!!!!!

GRATITUDE
At this time of year we give thanks once again. we set our day aside
just to give thanks, eat all we want, watch football, eat some more,
and to have a big parade in a city far way....
But where did it start?   when the white man come to this promise land
they did not know how to survive on this land. they had nothing.
and the native americans had compassion and helped them out. and for
that they set a day aside to give thanks for their help and their
friendship.
But what is it today? another reason to get work off? another day for
football?  a day for a parade? or is it the one day in the whole year
we remember to give thanks?
When should we show our gratitude? should we wait until the day that
is devoted to giving thanks? or constantly everyday of our life.
As President Monson said in Conference " Do we remember to give thanks
for the blessings we receive? sincerely giving thanks not only helps
us recognize our blessings, but it unlocks the doors of heaven and
helps us feel God's love."
President Hinckley said "when you walk with gratitude, you do not walk
with arrogance and conceit and egotism. you walk with a spirit of
thanksgiving that is becoming to you and will bless your lives.
with the lepers; through divine intervention those who were lepers
were spared from a cruel, lingering death and given a new lease on
life.  the expressed gratitude by one merited the Master's blessing;
the ingratitude shown by the nine, His disappointment.
WHICH ONE ARE WE?
regardless of circumstances, each of us has much to be grateful for.
if we will but pause and contemplate our blessings.  Do we think like
the world does?  that physical possessions and money bought things are
how we know we are blessed?  or do we look at the what really matters;
FAMILY, CHURCH, HEALTH, HAPPY CHILDREN BRINGING JOY AND MEMORABLE
TIMES INTO OUR LIVES. do we count big family gatherings as blessings
to see a group of people so close and who enjoy one another?
If ingratitude be numbered amoung the serious sins, then gratitude
takes place amoung the noblest virtues. "Gratitude is not only the
greatest of virtues, but the parent of all others.
one can not boast of himself and be lifted in pride over others when
he gives thanks to God and others for the help and support given to
him.
one can not be jealous of others when he prays and gives thanks daily
for his blessings and what he has.
one can not feel treated unjust when he is grateful for the Atonement
of Jesus Christ and how he can be whole by it.
"a grateful heart then, comes through expressing gratitude to our
Father in Heaven for His blessings and to those around us for all that
they bring into our lives.  this requires conscious effort - at least
until we have truly learned and cultivated an attitude of gratitude.
Often we feel gratitude and INTEND to express it(our thanks)  but
forget to do so, or just don't get around to it.

                           "THANK YOU"
Do not take for granted the little things of life!!!! you can't
imagine life with out them!!
BE GRATEFUL AND SHOW IT!!!!!!!
MOST IMPORTANT BE GRATEFUL TO GOD. SHOW IT BY CARING FOR OTHERS, YOUR
FAMILY, TELLING THEM AND BY DOING WHAT GOD ASKS OF US.
"GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD THAT HE GAVE HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON" - THAT IS
HOW GOD SHOWED HE LOVES US, let us show ours and that we are grateful
to him by giving thanks daily and always, and following His Son!!!
THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR LOVE AND ALL YOU DO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As winter approaches...

Scott was called to be a District Leader this week! He and his companion are staying together for another transfer and the work is picking up!

November 15, 2010
Well another week in the field and another week of missionary work.
things are good.  this week we had transfers and me and my companion
are staying together for a little longer, and i was made District
Leader.  Yahoo for me! ha ha ha it just means that i have to call
other elders every night and make sure that they are home safe HA HA
HA not much.
so the whether is cold. with the day-light savings thing or with out
it (i don't know which we are on) but it gets dark at about 5 now and
we still have till 9 to work. so the work is hard because once it gets
dark the only ones out are those that you usually don't talk to...
but this week we found 6 people who are kinda interested and this week
we have plans to pick them up and teach them!!!
so it will be good! we made a mission goal to have 25 baptism
by the 25th of Dec. for a gift to the Savior.  so we are pounding for
that!!!
this next week is THANKSGIVING!!!!!!! yahoo!!! THE DAY WE GET FAT FOR
FUN!!!!! I LOVE THAT DAY!!!!!  we are going to celebrate it with just
the missionaries since it is just an american holiday. we were going
to make the 2 elders from england and canada go out and work that day
but we decided to be nice and let them come eat with us.  we are
switching out p-day for thursday next week but i will still e-mail on
monday hopefully. :)   we are going to have a turkey bowl and just
have some fun that day!!!! it will be good!
so this week we sent out our 3RD missionary from the COUNTRY OF
GEORGIA!!!! he left on friday to london south and what a great joy
that was!!!!!  we have another one leaving in feb. and hope fully
another 2 in may..... the hope and future in georgia is in these young
missionaries when they return!!!  we are praying for them!!!!
so i love this land and i love these people!!!! there is no other
place like this!!! life is good here and the work is going good!
pray for those who the Lord is preparing to receive the truth!!!

Scott loves helping these people, we can hear it in his emails!

November 1, 2010
so not a lot of time today...... but here is an update on me :)
so this week was HALLOWEEN and the end of TBLISOBA!!!! the holidays
are done until Christmas!!!  so things are back to normal,  no more
crazy people on the streets!
well this year i dressed as a missionary and man i looked good HA HA
HA lol   things are going well in the work.  we have a baptism next
saturday and a few more planned after that!  people are understanding
and people are finding the truth through these hard times!!! it is
truly amazing!  i can see the hand of the Lord in all this work!  i
love it tons here and do not want to anywhere else!!!!
the weather is getting colder so things are great in this great land of Georgia!!!!
this week we are going to Armenia for a conference and that will be
fun! it is so much fun to go on a road trip and have some time to rest
and see other missionaries we never get to see!  it is great!
other then that not a lot is going on, still teaching and still
learning the language and still meeting and helping new people all the
time!!!!
LIFE OF A MISSIONARY IS A GREAT ONE!!!!!!!

Tbilisoba!

October 25, 2010
well this week was a fast and one to remember!!!
THIS WEEK WAS A HOLIDAY!!!!!!!!!!   TBILISOBA!!!!!! the time that
tbilisi was founded, so every parties for a week!!!!  so it is bad for
the work cuz everyone is partying and drunk but it is fun cuz there is
so much good food everywhere and lots of cool stuff to do and see!!!
everyone comes from vilages and sets up shops on the streets all over
the city so you get a clash of culture in these 2 weeks!!!
IT IS AWESOME, IT IS BEYOND AWESOME, IT IS BE-AWESOME!!!!  HA HA HA HA
so it is bad for the work but good for the culture (if i can say that) ....
but we do have a baptism planned and set for the 6th and we are
excited for that!!!  it will be a big boost for our spirits and for
the work! we are excited and happy about it!
things are going well with the companionship! we had a very good
spiritual talk on saturday and we fixed the problems and are looking
forward to the blessing of obedience!!!!  he is a good man and a good
heart, it just has been really hard for him to get lost in the work,
but with us being busy and me always being a "pain in his side" we
have figured it out and good to go!!!!!
well the whether is cooling off and i like it!!!  that means the snow
is on the way!!!!! HA HA HA the whether here is so unpradictable. you
never know what will happen...... it is so good!!! i like it a lot!
i forgot what i was going to tell you all................. HA HA HA HA HA
well HAPPY TBLISOBA!!!!!!!!
tell your families hi for me and hope your next week is a good one!!!!
 YOU ALL ARE THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!

Love Scott

A Week of Elder Johnson

Things are a little rough for Scott and his companion and the work right now, but they continue too work hard and we are praying for them all!

October 18, 2010
well well well so good to hear from you this week!!!! ya things did
not turn out like planned and we are e-mailling this week..... we had our
most progressing investigator tell us that she got an answer that it
was not true and was not baptized on saturday like planned..... it was
really hard but i think that we needed to learn a lesson.  OBEDIENCE
IS CONNECTED TO THE WORK>>>  so we talked to her and found out she
read some stuff on the internet about the church and what some church
leaders said (their words were changed) and decided no......  :(
so we talked and asked her again to seek
again for an answer and to seek from God and not the world....
hopefully she will still meet and we can still help her.  hopefully
this week things will pick back up!!!!  with our other investigators
we will hopefuly have one get baptized in 2 weeks on the 30th!!!  she
needs to know just a little bit more and gain a stronger testimony and
she i good to go!!! it has been awhile since our last baptism in
Georgia... it will be good to get another one :)
so that was the highlite of the week or should i say the down
point....  after that or week was all down hill.  that was sad ;( we
went from leading the mission last week, to close to the bottom this
week! that is not a good feeling!  but we
learn what we needed to and now are working to try and fix it!  that
is the important part, that we learn from it!
not much else happen this week and so i will leave with my regards
that you have a better week and that you all be safe!!!!

One Year in Georgia

October 8th marked the onea year anniversary of Scott's arrival in Georgia. We are so happy that he is working hard and loving his time serving these wonderful people.
October 11, 2010
Another week has come and gone and more people have felt the
Spirit :) we were busy all week long and that means that the work in
moving forward and people and g  the highlite of this week is we
starting teaching a family that my comp kinda though was a waste and
not progressing.  turns out the family is really interesting and is
actually our strongest members closet friend and he didn't even know
it till we took him as a member present.  so know we are teaching the
father, mother and 2 sons who are 16 and 14.  the mom was a church on
sunday and staid and watched conference.  she even sustained the
prophet during the sustaining vote on saturday all by herself. that
was amazing!!!! no one elsed raised their hand cuz the though it was
only for those people in the center but she didn't really know and
raised her hand!!! i haven't even talked to her about prophets yet HA
HA HA that was truly amazing!!!  now our member (Garik) and the
husband work together as taxi rivers and they talk about the gospel al
day long now and he goes over there and has lessons with out us HA HA
HA it is interesting to see what members will do when they find out
that there closet friends are interested....  PRETTY SWEET!!!!!!!!! I
LOVE GEORGIA!!!!!
also i another highlite of the week is we started teaching a temple
class for the young missionaries and I am the translator!!!!  the
senior couple that is teaching it asked me to help the younger kids
understand in georgian what they are going to be going through!!!!!
that is a test for your language skills if i ever knew one HA HA HA
it is good though :) i like it!!!
conference was good for what i saw.... i was sitting and listening to
it in russian with my investigators and o i didn't understand it all
but a few points..... i hope t see it in english soon. :)
well this week marked 1 YEAR IN THE COUNTRY and that means
celebration!!!! I BURNED A SHIRT JUST LIKE TRADITION HA HA HA  i will
send pictures :)  it was AWESOME!!!!!!
so i am good the weather is cooling off and i like that a lot!!!!
LOVE YOU ALL AND HAVE A GOOD WEEK!!!!!!!!!

Transfers!

Happy as ever, Scottie got a new companion and area this week. He is excited to be back in a branch he served in several months ago. Also, he's coming up on his one year mark- crazy!

October 4, 2010
well this week more great things happened!!!! WE HAD TRANSFERRERS!!!!
(i cant spell)  So after 8 long months in Saburtalo i got
moved to Avlabari with Elder Zuniga from Gilbert Arizona. he has been
out about 10 months now total on his mission and he is still
struggling with the small stuff, so President moved me here to help
him learn that obedience is key to the Lord's work, so it is going to
be a fun time.
with the transfer i am in the other branch and also in the other
district so that is also a good change :)  new people to work with and
new members to be friend :)  it is going to be FUN!!!!  when i first
got into the country i was in this branch but have not been here for 8
months. so it is good to be here!  i like it!!!
we got 4 investigators already with a baptismal date so the work is
picking up!!! i am so excited! it has been a while since we had some
baptisms so it will be good to get some going here soon!!! maybe one
in 2 weeks!!!!  YAHOO!!!
no we didn't get to watch conference.  we will get to next week or
sometime later, cuz we have to get the translated version for our
members!  it is in russian and not in georgian yet!  ;(  oh well.  i
did get to see Elder Uchtdorf's talk and that was the best!!! i really
loved it!!!!  so can't wait to see more!!!
i did bear my testimony in sacrament meeting this past week and i
ended up saying that i know this church is 10% true instead of saying
100% true..... once i realized i said that we all started laughing HA
HA HA they got the idea.
so this week we had a investigator who is really good friends with
Elder Holland. they met while he was here to dedicate the land for
missionary work. well he is also really good friends with Dorris
Platt, who was that one who got the church to be allowed to come
here... so she was there and i got to met her and we are having a
huge fire side for her to meet the members that she blessed.  she has
been doing humanitarian work here for 20 years and never seen the
members so i arranged for her to get that chance!!!  it is totally
awesome!!!
so this week: new area, new people, new friends, new branch and new
desire!!!  I LOVE IT HERE!!!!!  this week on the 8th (friday) will be
my 1 year mark in the country of Georgia!!!! HOLY COW, TIME
FLIES!!!!!!!!!
THANKS FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT AND ALL YOU HAVE DONE!!!!
LOVE YOU ALL!!!!!!!!
